KILAUEA — Friends of Kauai Wildlife Refuge, the nonprofit Friends Group supporting Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, invites local community members and visitors to the third annual ‘Guided Sunset Cart Tour’ to help Kauai’s endangered birds.
Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge NWR invites the community to its annual Guided Sunset Cart Tour hosted by the Princeville Makai Golf Club on the North Shore. This exceptional and intimate evening aims to educate the public on the native wildlife protected by Friends of Kauai Wildlife Refuges and its partners while enjoying a scenic sunset with our feathery residents. The tour takes the golf carts through the course rated as the “5th Most Scenic Course in the World” by National Geographic.
“Members of our community, Birds of, are invited to join us for this special experience as we talk story about the amazing wildlife we help protect, enjoy a beautiful North Shore sunset, and raise funds to support our mission,” shared Thomas Daubert, Executive Director of Friends of Kauai Wildlife Refuges.
“We are very grateful for the generosity of the Princeville Makai Golf Club, each of our corporate sponsors, and the community. This is a time when our wildlife and public spaces need our support more than ever,” he said.
The sunset guided tour is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, and will be the primary way visitors will be able to interact with the refuge until its reopening in mid-May. Tickets for the sunset tour include tickets for two, a golf cart, two complimentary drinks, and pupus with musical guest duo Kupaoa.
The funds raised during this unique experience will further support native Hawaiian wildlife conservation and preservation programs such as rehabilitative care for sick and injured native birds, education programs, and free busses for school field trips to Kilauea Point NWR.
Along with scholarships for college students pursuing environmental studies, native plant propagation, and wildlife habitat restoration, including equipment purchases and capital projects, volunteer training, maintenance, and preservation of the Daniel K. Inouye Kilauea Point Lighthouse, plus much more.
