Brad Hiranaka of Kauai Youth Football said he coached Nick and Nate Herbig when the two Pittsburgh Steelers were the age of the KYF players. Mahalo, Nick, Nate, and cousin Trey Taba (he’s really big now!), thank you for taking the time to motivate the KYF youth.

The Herbig brothers are hosting the Second HerbieGives Football Camp starting Friday evening from 5 p.m. at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium for the high school-aged athletes. The younger athletes and Girls Flag Football people have their chance on Saturday at the BJB Park (Vidinha Stadium is closed for renovations).
Also, kudos to the Wahine flag football players. The Kauai Interscholastic Federation inaugurates the first game on Thursday at Hanapepe Stadium, and the KYF flag football players are part of the spring season that launches on March 15 at the BJB. The girls are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
Kudos to all those volunteer malasada creators who were not deterred by the egg shortage or high prices due to the avian flu. Nothing beats the homemade flavor, so mahalo Immaculate Conception Church volunteers for 250 pounds of malasadas.
In the meantime, Team Unify is hosting a fundraising color run at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School with the Aunty Manapua food truck to benefit the Kauai Special Olympics. This means the annual Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run and the Special Olympics field games are right around the corner. Stay tuned.
Okay, it’s time to see what the first KIF qualifying track meet looks like at Kapaa High School (it’s supposed to start at 8 a.m. on Saturday), where the Warriors tennis teams host Island School starting at 9 a.m.
