POIPU — The National Tropical Botanical Garden announced on Tuesday the opening of its 2025 Florilegium Art Show at the NTBG South Shore Visitor Center located near the Spouting Horn lookout.
The annual exhibit of botanical work by artists on Kauai and elsewhere in the world will be presented from March 8 through 29. The exhibit is free and open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The public is invited to an opening reception on March 7 by registering online at the NTBG website, www.ntbg.org/events/florilegium-art-show-2025/ and clicking the “RSVP” button. The evening will include. a special NTBG member preview starting at 5 p.m. Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m., and registration is required.
A florilegium, defined from latin for “gathering flowers,” is a collection of illustrations that vibrantly document plants from a particular region, or botanic garden. Illustrations for the 20-25 Florilegium and produced by the NTBG Florilegium Society that is a group of botanical illustrators and artists — several are Kauai residents — gathered by the instructor Wendy Hollendar of Draw Botanical in New York.
The group comes together each year at the NTBG Kalaheo headquarters to illustrate the NTBG gardens’ flora. A few of this year’s trip to the gardens may be included in the exhibit that was previously held at the NTBG Kalaheo headquarters.
