Wanda Ka‘anohiokalani (Holt) Aki
Wanda Ka‘anohiokalani Aki passed away on Jan. 23, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on July 21, 1941, in Waimea, Kauai. She was a retired Librarian at Kauai Community Correctional Center.
Preceded in death by husband Fred Miller Aki, parents Bennette and Annie Holt, son Fred Miller Aki Jr., brothers Bennette Holt Jr., Ronnie Holt, sisters Lihue Miller, Annette Spencer, and Eula Sablan.
She is survived by daughters Melissia Sugai, Naylene Aki, sons John Aki, Lono Aki, brothers Norman Holt, Jimmy Anakalea, Ricky Waalani, 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Kauai War Memorial Convention Center in Lihue. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., followed by service at 10 a.m. Lunch to follow. Inurnment will be private.

Kathleen Donna Aban Asuncion
Kathleen Donna Aban Asuncion, of Wailua Homesteads, Kauai, Hawaii passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on Jan. 15, 1943, in Kealia. She was a retired State of Hawaii Janitor at Kapaa Elementary School.
Kathleen was preceded in death by husband Alfredo Asuncion, Marcos Aban, parents Ceasar and Marie Augusto.
She is survived by sisters Susie Gusman, Theresa Augusto, brother Wayne Augusto, daughters Michelle Saia, Danette Madeira, and son Stanford (Chantel) Aban.
Kathleen was blessed by 7 grandchildren Randy Teves-Aban, Ashely Teves-Aban, Andrew (Natasha) Saia, Stanford Aban Jr., Kala Madeira, Annie Rose Madeira, 4 great-grandchildren Kaya, Tuipulotu, Lii and Tosh Saia, stepchildren Jan Kaleimamahu, Wayne Augie Asuncion, Alfredo Kimo Escalante and Raymond Asuncion.
Kathleen embraced a simple life. Enjoying fishing, crocheting, lei making and gardening. Her favorite pass time during the weekends was finding treasures at garage sales.
Her faith in God was very strong. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever beliveth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 She was the Best Mom- She will be truly missed.
Celebration of her life will be held at the St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kapaa on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. You may visit with the family at 9:30 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Casual attire suggested.

Paul Tsugio Nishijo
Paul Tsugio Nishijo passed away on Nov. 22, 2024, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 91. Paul graduated from Kapaa High School and attended Honolulu Technical School on Oahu where he studied to become a baker.
Paul took over Kapaa Bakery from his father in 1963 and was the owner/baker for over 30 years. He was a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor and a love for music. Paul was married to Barbara for 62 years and had 3 daughters. He also had 8 siblings.
Paul was preceded in death by his daughter Michele Asato.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Nishijo, daughters Tess (Grant) Fuchikami, Melanie (Milo) Cornelius, son-in-law Dwayne Asato. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren Trent Asato, Alyssa (Brandon) Wicks, Kyle Fuchikami, Oliver Cornelius and 1 great-grandchild Jensen Wicks. He is also survived by siblings Shirley Miyahira, Theodore Nishijo, Rowland Nishijo and Kathryn Smith.
Memorial services will be held on Feb. 15, 2025, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Kapaa, Kauai. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 10 a.m.
