Jean Souza of the Kauai Ocean Discovery said the Saam Fu Chinese Cultural Center of Honolulu (congratulations on a great two-day tour of Kauai!) did not have enough young people to bring their young lion. Ember Tom was one of the Saam Fu youngsters (she does the full range of being part of the lion as well as performing on some of the instruments) who befriended Malia Pikake Mandrigues on Saturday when the lions performed at the Kauai Museum in celebration of the lunar new year (festivities culminate with the Lantern Festival on Feb. 12).

Shoppers at The Grove Farm Market were talking about Fisher Braden Caires and his helper Aaron Puta who had a bunch of Kona crabs and onaga available, and Rudy Sina of the Kauai Master Gardeners was taking a break after working with Umi Martin on grafting and air layering … did anyone see the news piece on the flower arranging class that benefits adult mental health backed by the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources?
