NAWILIWILI — The 48th John A. Burns Intercollegiate golf tournament will contest at the Ocean Course at Hokuala from Feb. 13-15.
The Burns Intercollegiate is described as the University of Hawaii “marquee men’s golf tournament” and is the NCAA Division I’s seventh-longest running golf event. The public (as walking spectators) is invited to view the competition that will feature 17 teams from 10 athletic conferences playing on the longest stretch of oceanfront holes in Hawaii.
“The Ocean Course is a great test of strategy,” said Scott Simpson, the Hawaii men’s golf coach and a 7-time PGA Tour winner. “Hokuala offers a nice balance of holes to attack and to play it safe. Kauai’s trade winds and fast greens add more layers to this scenic layout.”
Joining the University of Hawaii, the field includes teams from Brigham Young University, California, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Illinois, Long Beach State, Missouri, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s of California, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Texas A&M, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Utah, UTEP and Washington State.
Highlighting the field, San Diego State senior Justin Hastings is a 2025 Latin American Amateur Championship winner and a Masters Tournament qualifier.
Bastien Amat, a senior at New Mexico and an All-Mountain West honoree, will be back to defend his Individual title over the course that plays 7,156 yards.
The 2025 Burns Intercollegiate will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start through each of the tournament play dates. It will include six past team champions who have won a combined 20 Burns titles, including Cal who has five team titles captured in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. BYU has four titles.
The Burns Intercollegiate is named in honor of the state of Hawaii’s former governor John A. Burns and allows America’s top-ranked programs to annually play one another in the Aloha State.
