HONOLULU — Waimea High School girls basketball, the recently crowned Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation champions, has earned the No. 2 seed for the Pacific Century Fund Team Aloha Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Basketball State Tournament.
HONOLULU — Waimea High School girls basketball, the recently crowned Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation champions, has earned the No. 2 seed for the Pacific Century Fund Team Aloha Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Basketball State Tournament.
The Saturday evening announcement by the HHSAA indicates the tournament will start on Wednesday and will continue through Saturday at various locations in Honolulu.
With the No. seed, the Lady Menehune under the coaching of Natalie Mata will first see the hardwoods during the tournament’s quarterfinals on Thursday. Waimea will be facing the winner of the Wednesday matchup between Pahoa and Damien high schools. Tipoff time on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Kaimuki High School gym.
Top seed for the Division II tournament was awarded to Hanalani. The No. 3 seed went to Kapolei, the No. 4 seed going to Kohala High School, and the No. 5 seed was awarded to Lanai High School who will do battle on Wednesday against Kaiser High School.
Other teams participating in the Division II championship tournament include Castle High School that will open play against Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii (Island) on Wednesday.
Hilo High School will tip off against Molokai High School at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kaimuki High School facility.
The state’s Division I play starts Monday with Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama getting the nod for the tournament’s top seed. The No. 2 seed was awarded to Konawaena with Kahuku earning the No. 3 seed. Maui High School was awarded the No. 4 seed.
All seeded teams will first see action on Thursday during the tournament’s quarterfinals.
