See what happens when you live in paradise?
Santa (aka Phil Worwa) succumbed to giving lai see, or red envelopes containing money — Stacie Chiba-Miguel said the lucky number for this Chinese New Year is eight — to one of the three Chinese lions (the red keiki lion was really popular) during the lunar new year festivities.
Santa’s been involved in a lot of the Kauai (er, paradise) events like voting, giving blood, and even driving the tour boat shuttle bus.
Kauai Independent Food Bank Executive Director Kelvin Moniz enjoyed the lunar new year festivities by having dinner at Leong’s Meat House (they’re one of very few eating places that feature not-tourist trap pricing) with visiting relatives … Hawaii Foodbank Kauai manager Wes Perreira and his staff were busy congratulating winners of the recent Parade of Homes campaign … and kudos to The Shops’ management team on delivering proceeds of the Koloa Elementary School (Principal Layla and Jon Kobayashi were busy cleaning up after the 37th Kauai District Science Fair Saturday night) holiday gift bags campaign at the same time Penny Vess of Waimea High School was receiving the Assistant Principal of the Year award.
OK, so there are more lions to continue the celebration of the arrival of the Year of the Snake. According to the Chinese New Year website, celebrations (the week following lunar new year is a working holiday in China) continue until Feb. 12 with the Lantern Festival.
