Kung Hee Fat Choy!
Yes, it’s Chinese New Year, which is going to be followed by the National Football League Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day.
The Shops at Kukuiula will be celebrating the lunar new year on Friday with firecrackers (they have the permits), Chinese lions and Tsunami Taiko during the shopping center’s monthly Flavors of Kukuiula from 5:30 p.m.
Kukui Grove Center is combining the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day excitement on Saturday from 11 a.m. where the Pau Hana Market is planning on giving away some free fruit (while supplies last) when Tsunami Taiko and the Chinese lions appear.
The Kukui Grove folks also have “Hearts &Dragons” in addition to the monthly Pop Swap, and a Qi Gong for wellness demonstration starting at 1:30 p.m.
Over at The Grove Farm Market, Saturday is the craft fair component (overflow parking across Kuhio Highway at the Kauai Community College) featuring craft vendors with Valentine’s Day offerings from 9:30 a.m.
The Kauai Master Gardeners will present their fifth presentation to help backyard gardeners become successful in their productive food programs … what is the price of eggs, if you can get any? Saturday’s presentation on grafting and air layering will be led by Umi Martin of Umi Martin’s Farm in Kekaha, and Chrys Martin-Rowell talking about (hands-on demonstrations, too) air layering.
Any good Chinese New Year lunch specials?
