Kudos to Kauai High School student Dave Brahman (yes, Jim Brahman was there, too) for coordinating the Special Olympics (they’re called Unified Athletes) style athletes for a halftime basketball activity where the athletes passed through several basketball skills stations. And, they did add some minutes to accommodate the athletes.

OK, this is the weekend, and according to Melissa McFerrin Warrack, Aldrine Guerrero and his Ukulele Academy students are supposed to be doing a recital today at the Kukui Grove Center starting at noon.
Now that Martin Luther King Jr. Day (the Kauai RSVP people were doing their MLK project during the date I needed to get a photo for the Christmas Fund … no wonder the Agency for Elderly Affairs were not there), Chinese New Year comes on Wednesday (Jan. 29) where, in China and countries where Chinese New Year is a big event, the celebrations can continue up to 16 days, ending with the Lantern Festival on Feb. 12 (we’re already going to be Valentine’s Day mode). So, where do you find the good fortune foods?
The Shops at Kukuiula will be hosting a Chinese dragon on Jan. 31 (are we doing the Hokulei Village, too?) during the Pau Hana event in Poipu starting at 5:30. Kukui Grove is scheduled to do Chinese New Year with the lions, Qi Gong, and Hearts and Dragons Pop Swap on Feb. 1 starting at 11 a.m.
This weekend, we have the Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship paddling at the Wailua River from 9 a.m. today, and the KIF wrestling returns to the Bernice Hundley Gym, and yes, this is the fourth Sunday in January so the Wailua Bay Creator’s Fair takes place on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Hilton Garden Inn.
