LIHUE — Waimea High School and Kapaa High School boys soccer posted wins following the Wednesday encounters during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation games.
Kaikea Potts had the goal for the Kauai High School boys that was answered by Waimea’s Zac McCreaken and Makaio Hickson for the Menehune 2-1 go-ahead that came in the second half at the contest waged at the Hanapepe Stadium.
Over at the Island School Puhi campus, Kapaa boys, earlier claiming the Central Pacific Bank KIF boys’ crown with a 2-1 edge over Kauai High School, balanced its attack between two halves for its 7-0 shutout over the Island School Voyagers.
The win was fueled by a pair of own goals and a hat trick-and-one, or four goals, by Nalu Geer.
Kapaa got on the score sheets early with the pair of own goals. Geer followed with his first net for the 3-0 bulge at the break.
Coming off the break, Geer lost little time scoring after finding the goalmouth with less than a minute peeled off the clock.
Others scoring for Kapaa include Braden Bermoy, Kamalei Dasalia and Kamalei Gonsalves.
With just one more game scheduled for Saturday, the Kapaa boys — the CPB KIF boys soccer champions — improve to 11 wins, 1 tie for the season.
The championship title earns the Warriors eligibility to represent the KIF at the 2025 Motiv8 Foundation Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II Boys Soccer State Championships that will play from Feb. 6-8 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.
The Kauai High School girls soccer earlier clinched the CPB KIF girls soccer championships during its final home game on Jan. 18 when the Red Raiders closed their undefeated season with an 8-0 win over the Kapaa girls at Vidinha Stadium.
During the season closer, Kauai got a hat trick from Coral Turner, and goals from Kylah Racca, Kianah Racca, Aileah Villatora, Cayla Cantorna and Kyrian Yamase.
With the CPB KIF girls soccer title, the Kauai High School girls soccer will be one of two teams representing the KIF when the 2025 Motiv8 Foundation HHSAA Division II Girls Soccer State Championships gets underway from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.
The second girls team participating in the Division II state tournament will be the Waimea High School girls who finished the season with an overall 5-win, 4-loss, 3-ties record, the No. 2 team in the KIF.
