Christine Plamp
Christine Plamp, of Lihue, passed away on Dec. 20, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born in Leisnitz, Upper Silesia, Germany, on April 29, 1936, and worked as an account clerk for All State Insurance Company.
Christine was preceded in passing by her beloved husband Wolfgang Plamp and her parents Eduard and Marie Sacher.
Private services to be held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Juanito Balisacan
Juanito Balisacan, of Hanapepe, passed away on Dec. 18, 2024, in Lihue at the age of 69. He was born on April 20, 1955, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his father Zacarias Balisacan, mother Maria Balisacan, brother Ricarte Balisacan and sister Celerina Acoba.
He is survived by his wife Rizalyn Balisacan of Kauai, daughter Mary Cris Sierra (Jose III) of Honolulu, grandchildren Jose Sierra IV, Makaelyn Sierra, brother Pepito Balisacan (Emilia) of Honolulu, sisters Glorification Ballesteros of Kauai, Estrella Dela Cruz of Kauai, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 6:30 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Remedios ‘Remy’ Balmidiano
Remedios “Remy” Balmidiano, of Omao, passed away on Nov. 18, 2024, at Hale Kupuna Nursing Home at the age of 96. She was born on Sept. 8, 1928, in Waimea. Prior to retirement, she worked seasonally at Lawai and Kapaa cannery, Kauai Surf, and Kauai Laundry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernardino Jackson Balmidiano, parents Tranquilino and Estaquia Panera Palado, sisters Bening Villoria, Adella Briones, Coching Villoria, brother Erning Palado, granddaughter Rochelle K. Barretto and daughter-in-law Jenelle Wong Balmidiano.
She is survived by her sons Rudy Balmidiano of Hanapepe, Morven Balmidiano of Washington, daughter Norma (Robert) Barretto of Kapaa, grandchildren Garrick Barretto, Brandon Barretto, Shen Balmidiano, Jed Balmidiano, great-grandchildren Pii Buyat, Kenlyn Barretto, Sophie Barretto, Jaxon Balmidiano and sister Catalina “Talin” Florentino of Honolulu.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Juanita Castro Locke
May 6, 1936 — November 3, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Juanita Castro Locke on Nov. 3, 2024, at the age of 88. Juanita, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by her family.
Juanita was born on May 6, 1936, in Balangobong, Pangasinan, Philippines, to the late Esteban and Aurella Cayabyab. She spent many years as an employee of the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands. She retired in August of 2003 with ITT Industries.
In 1961, Juanita married Remegio Castro Sr, with whom she shared 18 wonderful years of love, laughter, and memories until his untimely death. Together they had six children, Mark, Steve, Janice, Aileen, Randy and Kurt, who were her greatest joy. She later married George Locke, a wonderful husband of 34 years, who offered unwavering support, love, and companionship.
Juanita had a deep love of cooking and baking, filling the kitchen with aromas of her wonderful home cooked meals and baked goods. She cherished her family and friends deeply, and her absence will be felt profoundly in our lives.
Juanita is survived by her beloved husband George Locke, her children Mark Castro (Anita), Steve Castro (Trini), Janice Pavao (David), Randy Castro, Kurt Castro, her stepchildren Remegio Castro Jr. (Sofia), Roy Castro (Andrea), her six grandchildren Tennille Pavao, Travis Pavao, Mark Castro Jr. (Stephanie), Marjerie Castro, Maurice Castro, Camila Castro, her great-grandchildren Mark Castro III, Ezra Castro, her siblings Guillermo Cayabyab, Mel Cayabyab, Nieves Cayabyab, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Teodulo Cayabyab and Eliope Cayabyab and daughter Aileen Castro.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha, Kauai. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The family requests Aloha attire.
Frank Paul Taitague Jr.
Frank Paul Taitague Jr., 46, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 3, 2025. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Feb. 2, 1978, and was an employee at Dominoes for the past 5 years.
He is survived by his grandparents Francisco and Eloisa Taitague, parents Danette “Kuulei” Taitague, Frank Taitague Sr., significant other Marie Jo Aguzar, son Paul Marcus Aguzar-Taitague, daughters Alma Mhae (Jordan) Aguzar Serrano, Esther Joyce Aguzar-Taitague, sister Kristin (Kevin) Larson and niece Paige Larson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. and services to follow at 10 a.m.

Hisako ‘Kay’ Yamamoto
Hisako “Kay” Yamamoto, of Kapaa, passed away on Jan. 13, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on March 25, 1931, in Tokyo, Japan, and worked at Hawaiian Airlines.
She was preceded in passing by her husband Grover Yamamoto, son Gene Yamamoto, parents Masami and Saiji Kozu, brothers Yukio Yokoo and Hiroshi Kozu.
Kay is survived by her daughter Naomi Yamamoto of Lihue, sister Michiko Matsumoto of Japan, grandchildren Kristie Spence of Arizona, Karleen Wade of California, Michael Quintana of California, great-grandchildren Alyson, Derek, Devin, Ethan, Keira, Kyan, Mitchell, Sydney, numerous nieces and nephews.

Bogart Leo Kealoha
Bogart Leo Kealoha, 80, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on Dec. 22, 2024, in Lihu‘e. Bogart was a Fire Fighter III and Fire Rescue Helicopter pilot for the Honolulu Fire Department. He was the owner and operator of ‘Ohana Helicopters and completed his career with Sunshine Helicopters in Lihu‘e.
Bogart is survived by his six children Jennifer (Michael) Costa, Bogart Kealoha II, Jesse (Jewels) Kealoha, Ilima (Kalei) Livingston, Willow Kealoha, Charles Kealoha, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

Kenneth Kiyokazu Ishii
Kenneth Kiyokazu Ishii (Uncle Kenny), 72, of Kapaa, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on Dec. 31, 2024.
Kenny was preceded in passing by his parents Kenneth and Marian Ishii, son Ryan Ishii, sister Dawn Ishii, brothers Douglas Ishii and Michael Ishii.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Jane Sullivan, his son Lukas Ishii, sisters Colleen (Mike) Ishii, Terry Agno, Ione Ishii, brother Peter (Mary) Ishii, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Kenny was creator/operator of Ono Family Restaurant in Kapaa for many decades and retired in 2020. His passions were community service and uniting/connecting people. His creative mind was always active and he eagerly shared his ideas with anyone willing to listen. He treated everyone like family, making each person he met feel known and cherished, as if they had been lifelong friends. Kenny truly embodied a true spirit of aloha.
In lieu of traditional tributes like donations to charity, flowers, or planting trees in Kenny’s memory, we kindly request that you instead help someone in need in our community.
A paddle out for family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Justino Agno Ganutisi
Justino Agno Ganutisi, of Lihue, passed away on Jan. 1, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on July 18, 1954, in the Philippines, and worked as an Irrigation Maintenance at ITC Water Management.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo and Teodora Ganotisi, brothers Marcelino Ganotisi and Viktor Ganotisi.
Justino is survived by his loving wife Ursula Ganutisi, sons Richard (Jennifer) Ganotisi, Joey Gano, daughters Brenda (Darwin) Samson, Mary Jane (Jefferson) Elaydo, Liezel (Jayce) Villaruel, brother Antonio Ganotisi, sisters Pacita (Demetrio) Asuncion, Clarina (Conrado) Tanaliga, Elidia Ganotisi, Marietta (Pancho) Baldonado, grandchildren Briana, Jett, Jon, Chadler, Sofia, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlotte Aiko Kaneholani
Charlotte Aiko Kaneholani, 78, of Anahola, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 31, 2024. She was born in Hawaii on July 13, 1946, and was employed as a seamstress with Smith’s Tropical Paradise and boat tours and volunteered at Church of the Pacific Food Pantry.
Preceded in death by her husband David Kaneholani Sr., parents Charles Kiilau Sr., Haruko Kiilau, daughter Sarah Kaneholani, siblings Charles Kiilau Jr., Mollie Shigeko Kiyabu, Lulu Tsuruko Alicuben, Walter Masao Kiilau, in-laws Lily Kiilau, Raymond Napoleon, Shigeru Kiyabu, Wesley Kailimai, Lillian Kiilau, Harold Sato, great-grandchildren Jordaen Alisna and Alaena May Himeko Benavidez.
She is survived by her children Walter Masao (Lehua) Iopa, Mollie Ray Iopa, Charla (John) Brock, David Kaneholani Jr., Maycia (Guy Ibos) Matsuyoshi, Kealaonaona Iopa, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, siblings Pearl Kailimai, Charmian Sato, in-laws John “Jacky” Alicuben, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Feb. 22, 2025, at Anahola Beach Park. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with services and lunch to follow.

William ‘Bill’ Grosvenor Cramer
William “Bill” Grosvenor Cramer, 89, of Lawai, passed away at home on Jan. 13, 2024. He was born in Washington on July 16, 1935. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired as an accountant.
Preceded in death by his wife Lillian Marie Morris Cramer, parents Tony and Marie Cramer, brother Nolan Cramer and sister Ruth Cramer.
Bill is survived by sons Brian (Tasha Nicholas) Cramer of California, Lloyd (Brenda) Cramer of Colorado, grandchildren Faith Ann Cramer, Jon Nichael Cramer, August Konvalin, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at the Lawai Seventh Day Adventist Church with viewing from 10:30 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

Frank Cecilio Nadarisay Sr.
Frank Cecilio Nadarisay Sr., 78, of Lihue, passed away on Jan. 5, 2025, in Lihue. He was born on Nov. 17, 1946, in Lihue. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a construction inspector for County of Kauai.
He was preceded in death by parents Cecilio and Hertrodis Nadarisay, brothers Raymond Villatora, Victorino Villatora, Benardo Nadarisay, sisters Gregoria Caberto and Mercedes Ines.
He is survived by wife Colleen Chow Nadarisay, son Frank Cecilio Nadarisay Jr., daughters Lisa (Daniel) Rapozo, Lea (Darwin “Zoom”) Bukoski, grandchildren Kaiwi Nadarisay-Bejo, Jaime “Kaimi” Gonzalez, Wailana Bukoski, Kainalu Nadarisay, Darwin “Haka” Bukoski, Kainoa Rapozo, great-granddaughter Anuhea Nadarisay-Bejo, brothers Benny (Marina) Villatora, Antonio (Candace) Nadarisay, sisters Diane Vierra, Florencia Alviar, Julie Lopez, Delores Alimboyogen, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley Anne (Hansen) Douglass
Born in San Francisco, California, Shirley Anne (Hansen) Douglass passed away in Lihue, Hawaii, on Jan. 9, 2025, at the age of 89, with family by her side. Shirley graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco, married her childhood sweetheart Paul Douglass, and began a life of adventure as Paul’s Navy service and long career with Matson Navigation Co. took them to Korea, Japan, Portland and back to San Francisco. When Matson sent Paul and Shirley out to Hawaii in 1967, they fell in love with the islands and stayed there for good, living over the years on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and finally Kauai (with a brief detour to Guam).
In addition to raising their five children, Shirley actively supported Paul’s community service efforts and worked for Macy’s (San Francisco), Mobil Oil (Guam). Additionally, many will remember Shirley as the friendly face at Waldenbooks, later Borders, here on Kauai.
Shirley is survived by her children Susan L. Douglass of Hilo, Stephen P. Douglass of Las Vegas, David C. Douglass of Clarksville, Tennessee, Sharon D. Mayo of Mill Valley, California, and devoted caregiver Scott A. Douglass of Lihue, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters Marian Mann and Carole Poe, and brother William Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Shirley Douglass may be made to Kauai Hospice or the Wilcox Hospital Foundation.
