KAPAA — With the final Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls soccer match looming on Saturday, the Kauai High School girls beat Island School on Tuesday, and the Waimea High School girls edged Kapaa High School on Wednesday at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium.
Kauai High School, hosting Island School at Vidinha Stadium in this latest round of soccer, finished the day by beating the Voyager wahine, 6-1, and the Red Raider boys finished the sweep on Wednesday with a 5-1 win over the Voyagers.
Over at the BJB stadium, Kapaa finished with a split, the Menehune taking a 2-0 win in the girls’ match and the Warriors claiming a 2-0 edge in the boys’ contest.
Red Raider Cayla Cantorna put the Kauai wahine on the board for a 1-0 halftime lead before the scoring floodgate opened in the second half for five nets. Kylah Racca led the scoring with a pair of nets followed by Kyla Perreira, Aileah Villatora and Kylan Yamase each finding the goal once.
Island School’s Chloe Ayonon, playing key defense in the first half, reversed to scoring the sole Voyager goal.
Kauai High School’s Kaikea Potts scored a hat trick, or three nets, to lead the Red Raiders to its 5-1 final over Island School.
Red Raider Barkley Gilman opened the scorebooks in the eighth minute followed by Potts’ first score two minutes later for the 2-1 halftime lead following Voyager Hunter Kerry finding the net just a minute before the half closed.
The Red Raiders closed the scorebooks following two goals from Potts in the second half, and a goal by Kobe Claussen in the 69th minute.
Over at the BJB stadium, Waimea wahine struck early as Kailea Itamura, and Kendra Knapp each scored in the first half for the 2-0 edge that came despite the strong defensive efforts of Warrior stopper Emily Matsuda and goalkeeper Eliza Marie Racelo.
On the boys’ field at the BJB, Keoni Dasalia found the net in heavy traffic for the 1-0 halftime lead that was followed by a net from Kamalei Gonsalves in the second half for the 2-0 final.
The next KIF soccer games take place on Saturday when Kapaa faces Kauai at Vidinha Stadium, and Waimea takes on Island School at the Voyager’s Puhi campus. According to the KIF schedule, the junior varsity boys kicks off at 10 a.m., followed by the varsity girls tangling from 11:45 a.m., and the varsity boys kicking off from 1:45 p.m.
Games at Island School will see the varsity girls kicking off at 2 p.m. followed by the varsity boys starting at 4 p.m.
