LIHUE — The Kauai Chorale winter concerts will take place on Saturday from 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 2 p.m. at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center located adjacent to the YMCA pool on Nuhou Street.
Tickets for the concert are available online at the Kauai Chorale website www.kauaichorale.org, or at the door on show dates.
“‘Holiday Harmony’ is an appropriate title for the concert that brings together the Island School Alakai Chorus and, once again, the Garden Island Ballet Academy (on Sunday only),” said Joe Moore, the Kauai Chorale artistic director.
“This concert is a concert meant to promote harmony in the world so it is a mixture of secular and sacred music,” Moore said. “That was my inspiration — its just things that have lots of good harmony that would help people feel better.”
The presentation will feature standards like the “Hallelujah Chorus” from G.F. Handel’s “Messiah,” and “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” with and without dancers, “Carol of the Bells” and a different take on “O Holy Night.” There will also be one Hawaiian song, a Hanukkah number, and more.
Moore said the group has been making music on Kauai for more than 60 years.
“Oh, my gosh, this is like a dream come true,” the conductor said. “This is like a dream come true being able to direct the Kauai Chorale. It’s like having a chorale that can sing so well with such diverse members. It is truly a life dream.”
One is the singers is a kupuna who was turned away from her high school chorus because she was told she was not a good enough singer.
“She’s enjoying herself, and.this is the first time in her life she ever was in a choir,” Moore said.
