Several hundred people, including families of associates of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, community members and guests, jammed the roundabout at the resort’s porte cochere in anticipation on Friday.
“If I hear them say, ‘Ooh’ and ‘Ah-h’ then I know we did what we set out to do,” said Michael Murphy, the Grand Hyatt Kauai general manager who joined the crowd being entertained by the live music from 10th grader Kamahao Haumea Thronas, who will be hosting his second annual “Kalikimaka with Kamahao” concert on Dec. 21.
Associates who joined their families during the countdown said it’s been a while since the Grand Hyatt Kauai did anything special to celebrate the holidays.
Ahead of the countdown, visitors could enjoy a visit with Santa above the Seaview Terrace, enjoy hula in the lobby, and relax with a cup of hot cocoa while waiting for the sun to descend low enough for the lights to be turned on.
Keiki could indulge in special cookie decorating at the Ilima Terrace, and guests could view the gingerbread village complete with an operating model train. The resort’s culinary team created the special holiday display along with a “Wailele Kokoleka,” or chocolate waterfall display, that greeted guests to the Ilima Terrace.
“The holiday season is a special time at our beautiful resort, and we are excited to welcome our local community with delicious food, incredible experiences and special promotions to ensure an unforgettable celebration,” Murphy said.
The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is a luxurious 605-room resort located on 50 landscaped oceanfront acres overlooking Keoneloa Bay. The resort is a great place for a holiday staycation with special kamaaina rates and dining discounts.
