Eric and Attalia Alverdes enjoy the Wailua Creators’ Fair on Sunday before heading back to Seattle. Eric, formerly of the Garden Inn management team, and Attalia, the former market manager of the Creators Fair, also squeezed in the Kaua‘i Okinawan Festival with Adam and Kristine Coyaso before returning to Washington, where Eric is with the Hotel Theodore in downtown Seattle.

Wood carver Tepairu Manea works on a two whales project on Sunday during the Wailua Creators’ Fair at the Hilton Garden Inn Wailua Bay Kaua‘i. Manea confirmed the Heiva I Kaua‘i 2023 will take place Aug. 5 and 6 at the Kapa‘a Beach Park, where he will have more of his woodwork available, including functional toere.

Kudos, Jonathan Chun, Gary Ueunten (got to visit with Glenna Ueunten too since she only does the Thursday Sunshine Market now), Alan Hiranaka, and all those Hui Alu hands. Scott Taba was doing the Okinawa soba, and Harvey Maeda was busy with the Okinawa pork (wow! sold out on two nights!), and even U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda came to help with the andagi — it’s an art to have them soft and edible throughout.
