Kate Thongpoon and Dang Promnmsi of Dang’s Farm unveil their new table, offering various fried foods, on Saturday at the Grove Farm Market in Puhi, where Superheros sushi thai also put out a table outside their food truck.

From left, Sonya Wilhelm, Kharmine Wilhelm, Kimberlynn Salons and Shikera Wilhelm have a lot of lei, and even floaters, at their lei stand located “behind the big rig,” at the Waimea High School graduation on the school lawn on Friday.

Maile Castillo offers assorted fabric lei as a fundraiser for her son Kahi, who needs to get to the Keiki Hula competition on O‘ahu and the Rose Bowl in California with the All-Hawai‘i Band.

Bubble gum lei, fabric and palaka? Ribbon lei la‘i. Those fancy money lei and crowns that were not available from vendors on the way to graduation (good thing the rain decided to let up!).

Maile Castillo got to use the foyer at the historic Waimea Theater to vend her offerings (didn’t sell out like Kimberlynn Salons, who was down to her last exotic lei la‘i with graduation still more than an hour out) as a fundraiser for her son Kahi, who needs to get to the Keiki Hula contest on O‘ahu and to the Rose Bowl as a member of the All-Hawai‘i Band (is this the same one being coordinated by Kapa‘a High School Music Director Catherine Paleka?). Kwailan Obrero was celebrating the return of no COVID restrictions after several years of not being able to sell lei at graduation ceremonies!

What? Fried pumpkin? Fried banana, sweet potatoes, and even kalo? Dang’s Farm started doing value added to their normal produce offerings at the Grove Farm Market Saturday mornings in Puhi (good thing everyone was sleeping in following Friday graduation…no crowd for the Nonaka Farm Half Moons tent. Dean Nonaka was not scheduled until after the Grove Farm Market, and Coach Kell Nonaka was busy at the north Vidinha soccer fields with the Kaua‘i Soccer Association championships and playoffs!
