LIHU‘E — St. Patrick’s Day just coincided with the final weekend of spring break this year, and Kukui Grove Center sandwiched entertainment events celebrating both occasions.
The shopping center presented a lunchtime St. Patrick’s Day entertainment package that featured several costumed characters like the Showtime Characters Leprechaun and a stilted lady garbed in green peppering several children’s activities, including games outside the selfie station set up across Oki Bento.
“We’ve been jammed from the start,” said Brenda Biehler of Showtime Characters, who was kept busy balloon sculpting for keiki. “Everybody’s out because today is the last day of spring break and the weather’s nice.”
Saturday’s schedule calls for a Pop Swap, a variety of vendors offering collectibles and sports cards with the day ending with Kukui Grove’s monthly movie offering.
“This is the last weekend of spring break, so we’re celebrating with a Pop Swap. Then, as the sun goes down, we have our movie night in the food court area,” said Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, the special events coordinator.
“Since it’s a last chance to celebrate before school starts, we’re showing “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” when it starts getting dark. Kaua‘i Partea, just like it did last month, will have movie snacks of popcorn and hot dogs available for purchase.”
The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is a special offering for Kukui Grove shoppers after it earned four Academy Awards during last week’s presentations. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actress, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
