WAIMEA — The Waimea High School softball team pounded four home runs over the course of two games to beat the Kaua‘i High School, 19-0 and 18-3, on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation softball games contested at Waimea Canyon Park.

The Red Raiders came to Waimea on a high note after upsetting Kapa‘a High School on Wednesday night. That high dropped in the second inning when the Menehune started the scoreboard rolling behind a grand slam, Sianni Sakai’s first of two recorded in the series.
Sakai counted two grand slams, the second coming in the fourth inning, to Waimea’s six hits in the opener where designated hitter Kayla Prigge marked five runs batted in on three singles.
The Red Raiders were held to just one hit — a single by Jeyslen Orial in the first frame — by Menehune hurler Taelor Camelo, who finished by striking out nine Red Raider batters and walking just three.
Camelo continued her performance on the mound in the second contest, allowing just six hits while striking out eight Kaua‘i batters and walking just two.
Kaua‘i came back in Game 2 when Mia Marty marked the first of three scores on a solo homer in the second inning. Kaua‘i also marked hits by Jei Li Rosare-Yadao, Kamryn Yates, Dallas Batoon and Cheyley Jacobs.
Waimea’s Ryleah Torres marked a grand slam during the third frame of Game 2 to finish the contest with five RBIs. Kayani Santos followed with four RBIs on a single and a three-run homer in the fourth frame, as the Menehune chalked up five hits toward their 18 runs. Sakai rounded out the Waimea hitting with a pair of singles and one RBI.
With two wins in its pocket, Waimea makes the trek over to the Kapa‘a High School softball field on Wednesday for a single game starting at 6 p.m.
