KOLOA — Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School student Zander Michaels ran 16 laps in 15 minutes, and the annual jog-a-thon raised more than $11,000 that will be used to fund project-based learning activities, field trips and supplies for the school’s enrichment classes.
David “DJ” Adams, the Alaka‘i O Kaua‘i Charter School po‘okumu, or director, said the school held its annual jog-a-thon on Jan. 23 under “near perfect conditions” at the school’s campus in Kahili Valley.
“We are extremely proud of the close to 200 keiki in kindergarten through grade six who took on the challenge of walking, jogging or running for 15 continuous minutes,” Adams said. “We are especially proud of the top achievers in each grade for their accomplishments.”
Michaels, a fourth grader, achieved more laps than anyone else, running a lap in less than a minute per lap.
