It’s a new year (yes, Chinese New Year is Jan. 22 — mark your calendars!), and a bunch of new things happening at the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market on Kress Street that was held for the first time in 2023, with Bronson Aiwohi welcoming guests with his Hawaiian stylings, and a new market manager.
It’s a new year (yes, Chinese New Year is Jan. 22 — mark your calendars!), and a bunch of new things happening at the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market on Kress Street that was held for the first time in 2023, with Bronson Aiwohi welcoming guests with his Hawaiian stylings, and a new market manager.
Camille Pakcong of Rainbow Roots Farm Hawai‘i celebrated her first appearance at the marketplace, and Talia Anama of Ruke (permanent jewelry) was another new face joining the crowd that included Francis and Geraldine Baniaga of Mothers Filipino Comfort Food (they’re at the Pau Hana Market on Monday afternoons at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, too), the Hamura Saimin crew, and Aunty Manapua (she also does the Grove Farm Market on Saturday mornings in Puhi).
Krystl Apeles of the Alakoko store had a catchy new phrase — “home of Kaua‘i makers” — and is trying to find a musical way to present the new phrase. And when did the Mo‘olelo Murals girls create those new panels that effectively screened the window of the Alakoko store?
The market is held the second Saturday of each month.
OK, so it was late (boys basketball was calling from Lala Road), so no time to catch up with Tommy Noyes and the Bikes on Rice crew, and the Iguchi ‘ohana now has grown from just crystals to a separate “Grown, Not Flown” tent with nice caps, casual wear, and even stickers.
