Dennis Fujimoto/The Garden Island

A new flush of Lehua mamo (this one is located right outside Kaua‘i Bakery at the Kukui Grove Center) comes with the New Year. Now, when do the bees and birds visit this bush that is endemic to the island of O‘ahu?

The Kaua‘i High School gym is bathed in the unique sunset lighting on Wednesday that comes following the overnight passage of a weather front that brought a day of overcast skies and showers.

New Year’s celebrations bring along a string of other milestone events like getting to know your Girl Scouts so you can order your year’s stash of Girl Scout Cookies (Thin Mints stored in freezers are super snacks!). Angela Hoover, the Kaua‘i Girl Scout coordinator, said booth sales start Feb. 17 and continue until the end of March, or until supplies run out … another reason to order ahead from your local Girl Scout.
