LIHU‘E — The Koloa man who allegedly called in a bomb threat to Koloa School on Sept. 26 had been dating a woman whose children are students at the school, court documents show.
Lopaka Santos-Dasalia, 20, was charged on Sept. 29 with two counts of terroristic threatening in the first degree and one count of harassment for the incident, which shut down the school for a day.
A woman who dated Santos-Dasalia on and off for several months filed a petition for an order for protection against him the same day, which describes the bomb threat and details a history of harassment.
“I got a message from him saying he was threatening the school,” wrote the woman, whose name is not disclosed due to privacy concerns. “I did not believe him but then I got a call from Koloa Elementary School that they have a bomb threat. I was really scared. My children attend Koloa Elementary, and I immediately went to pick them up.”
After Santos-Dasalia was arrested on Sept. 27, he continued to contact the woman, the petition alleges.
“He stated that if I told anyone he was the one that made the call it would be the end of his life and mine,” she wrote. “Since his arrest and even while in cellblock at KPD (Kaua‘i Police Department), Lopaka continued to call me. I am fearful that Lopaka can’t control his anger and will harm myself and my children.”
According to the document, the harassment had been occurring for at least a month before the incident, including an outburst outside of Koloa School.
The woman reported that Santos-Dasalia approached her when she was picking up her kids at the school on Sept. 1 this year. When she expressed that she did not want to speak with him, he became angry and threw a metal water bottle at her car.
Santos-Dasalia is being held in Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center on $100,000 bail.
He appeared in a Lihu‘e courtroom on Tuesday for a bail review hearing, where the court recommended he remain in custody at KCCC.
A jury trial has been set for Feb. 2, 2023.
