Hanalei School graduate Cassidy Rogoff accepts the Larry Ching Memorial Scholarship from Mike Ching of Ching Young Village Shopping Center in Hanalei recently. Rogoff, declared the valedictorian of the school’s Class of 2022, is also a winner of the “Sight Is Beautiful” art contest sponsored by the Lions Club. The scholarship is named for the founder of the Ching Young Village Shopping Center, who was Mike Ching’s father. The award will help Rogoff, who plans to attend Island School and continue on to college with the hope of becoming a doctor like her father, Dr. Steve Rogoff, M.D. She excels in math and likes to write funny stories, said Mike Ching.

Artist Alissa Hartman (if “Hartman” has two ns, it’s German; if it has one n, it’s British, Alissa said) likes reds (those earthy reds in the octopus and the native upland bird at Art Kaua‘i 2022 are pretty awesome) was doing gallery-sitting duty with artist Stephen Lucas Monday after the Kaua‘i Society of Artists opened its Art Kaua‘i 2022 on Saturday at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.
