HANAPEPE — A Hanapepe home was damaged in a fire Saturday.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Waimea, Hanapepe, Koloa and Lihu‘e stations were dispatched to a structure fire reported on Kupa‘a Street. According to a preliminary report, one of the home’s occupants refused to evacuate the structure at the time of the 911 call.
Once on scene, crews extended a hose line into the structure where they could see light smoke present, a press release said.
“Firefighters turned off power to the house, and as they entered the home, the occupant left the house willingly,” the release said.
Crews extinguished the fire, which was contained to the one bedroom.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $9,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
