LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School pitcher Seijia Makanani was named Player of the Year, and her coach Alani Silva earned Coach of Year honors in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation softball all stars that was released earlier in the week.
Jaedyn Naka‘ahiki, slamming a home run and leading the Red Raiders to its victory during the KIF season, was the sole Kaua‘i High School player to make the honors list.
Kapa‘a, going on to win the state Division II title, placed eight players on the all stars while Waimea, working hard to earn the Division II runner up title during the state tournament on Maui, ended with four players making the list, including shortstop Sianni Sakai who proved to be a dangerous player both on the field, in the batter’s box, and on the base paths.
Waimea High School pitcher Anson Lazaro was named Player of the Year, and his coach Chad Delanoza got the nod as Coach of the Year when the KIF released its Baseball All Stars.
The Menehune, currently reigning as the KIF Baseball king, went on to finish the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II as the Division II runner up team during the recent playoffs in Hilo, Hawai‘i.
Waimea placed seven players on the all star roster with Kaua‘i High School, finishing as the KIF runner up team, placed three players on the lineup. Kapa‘a High School placed two players, Kelcie Masada-Kimura and Koa Manintin on the roster, and Island School, inaugurating a team for the first time in KIF play, placed Blake Braun on the all star lineup.
