MAUI — Kaua‘i Junior High School rodeo participant Skye Schumacher is heading to Georgia to compete at the National Junior High School Finals Rodeo where she will be competing with more than 1,500 other fifth through eighth grade students from around the United States.
“The Kaua‘i girls all did great at the Junior High School state finals held at the Oskie Rice arena in Makawao, Maui,” said Tammy Puu, the Hawai‘i High School Rodeo Association-Kaua‘i District president. “They came back in the short round following two days of competition. This means they were all in the Top 15 in their events.”
Schumacher won the state pole bending buckle, the state pole bending aggregate buckle, and the Rookie of the Year buckle.
Savannah Miranda came back in the short round for barrel racing and pole bending.
“Both Savannah and Skye will be heading to Perry, Georgia in June to compete at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo,” Puu said. “Savannah didn’t win, but was high enough to be invited to the Nationals to be on the team of four barrel racers to represent Hawai‘i. Both Skye and Savannah will do barrels, and Skye will also do poles in Georgia.”
Chyanne Ka‘aihue made the short round in goat tying, Carlee Dusenberry and Paisley Kuhlmann came back in pole bending, and Miranda came back in both barrel racing and pole bending.
