Judge convicts man of murder in Hawaii road rage shooting

HONOLULU — A judge found a Hawaii man guilty Thursday of murder in a fatal road rage shooting.

After a trial that lasted about a week and two days of deliberation, Judge Fa’auuga To’oto’o convicted Eddieson Reyes, 38, of murder, terroristic threatening and other charges.

Triston Billimon, 19, was shot to death near the Likelike freeway offramp in Honolulu last year, prosecutors said.

Reyes shot Billimon after forcing Billimon’s car to a stop, prosecutors said.

Reyes faces a life sentence without possibility for parole. Sentencing is scheduled for August.

His attorney, Eric Seitz, said he will appeal.

“I am very upset,” Seitz said. “I think it’s almost certainly going to be reversed on appeal.”

One witness who identified Reyes at the scene said Reyes was holding a gun in his right hand, Seitz said.

“My client is clearly left-handed,” he said.

Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm in a statement said he hopes the verdict will bring some closure to Billimon’s family.

“This verdict sends a strong message that senseless violence like the kind committed by Reyes will not be tolerated in our community,” Alm said.
