Kudos to the many (!!!) hands coming to life to, as Patty Furtado (mahalo for that iced water!) told a visitor, “malama ka ‘aina.”
Mahalo, Pua Rossi and Emily Broderickson (nice job with that guerrilla gardening make-up) of Kaua‘i Community College, for all those Earth Day activities to “re-connect” with the community after being shut down because of COVID-19 pandemic (we’re still not out of the woods, yet!).
Carol Yotsuda (how many years of E Kanikapila Kakou?) remembers mixing and pouring cement when Bob Leathers and Cheryl Nickel (nice to see them watch, and not work, on Kamalani Park) came here 28 years ago to start the growth of the playground.
Danielle Sagum of Inspired Play (they built the new playground) said she was in the third grade and remembers voting on the volcano as a feature of Kamalani Playground, and Tommy Noyes (still have my ceramic mosquito punk holder) was coordinating the massive turnout from many hands.
And kudos, Mayor Derek Kawakami, for doing all those events from blessing the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery expansion, the new inclusive playground, and still being able to “compete” with Little Brother Kyan Kamala at the “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” fundraiser (nice to see “the original Little Brother” Dennis Brown, Wonder Woman, the Power Rangers and more!) at the Kaua‘i Bowl in the Rice Shopping Center in Lihu‘e.
