LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau announced that it has up to six scholarships available to Kaua‘i residents studying agricultural fields.
Graduating high school seniors, undergraduate students and graduate students may apply for up to four, $1,000 scholarships for study in an agriculture-related field. These fields include general agriculture, animal science, aquaculture or a closely related field. Food science and nutrition majors are not eligible.
Additionally, up to two, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to Kaua‘i residents whose parents or guardians are members of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau. These scholarships are available to high school graduating seniors and college or university students.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of recent scholastic achievement, participation in school and community activities and agricultural experience.
KCFB Farm Family scholarship applicants may earn additional points based on family participation and volunteerism in KCFB activities.
Students may apply for either or both scholarships. However, only one scholarship will be awarded to each qualifying student.
Students may qualify for more than one year of scholarships, but must complete and submit new applications each year. To maximize the number of students benefiting from the program, the scholarship committee will award the same student scholarships for not more than two consecutive years. Following a one-year break, the student can be considered for another two consecutive years.
In addition to a completed application form that must be submitted to the KCFB Scholarship Committee by May 9, applicants must include the most recent official transcript from either high school or college, and three recent letters of personal reference.
All applications and documents need to be submitted by mail to KCFB Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 3895, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
