An interment service at Homelani Memorial Park will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11 a.m.
John was a fun-loving guy with an amusing sense of humor. In high-school the students were told they had to wear shoes on campus, so he cut the soles off his shoes. Much to the amusement of his class-mates, his bare-footprints bewildered the faculty. It’s no wonder he was voted Senior Class Clown!
He had a brilliant mind and was able to untangle puzzles and solve mechanical, structural and agricultural problems. His 40 year career in agro-industrial development, operations and consulting had him employed all over the world. His work is published and he was awarded 3 patents for his inventions.
John liked to organize activities that got people together. He established “The Best Little Ho-Down In Hawaii” a yearly weekend square dance festival in Kokee. He was actively involved in the creation of “Koloa Plantation Days”, soliciting many sponsors as well as setting up a sugar museum in the plantation’s round-house.
He became interested in genealogy and helped trace “Herkes” throughout the world and organize a world-wide clan gathering in Scotland.
John was a true gentleman who put others first and strove for excellence in whatever he did.
