Kamalei Contrades likes the “real fire,” said Ferdinand Dosono of Kaua‘i Kim Chee, who was enveloped in black wind screening Saturday when the Grove Farm Market welcomed more than three dozen crafters to its every-other-month Puhi event.
“He’s the sixth generation of the Chang family of cooking,” Ferdinand said while the keiki wielded his own pair of tongs and sauce bottle. “And kalbi is his favorite.”
Attalia Alverdes of Pineapple Expressions (she and her husband Eric just launched the successful Wailua Bay Crafter’s event last Sunday!) should take note of that, since one of Kamalei’s lineage once managed the property where the Hilton Garden Inn Kaua‘i Wailua Bay sits.
Annette Hashimoto was definitely not going to miss out on this kind of excitement (did the wind blow away your neighbor’s tent?), and Papa was worrying about whether or not baseball (congrats, Waimea coach Chad Delanoza and the Menehune on their 10-0 shutout of Kaua‘i High at the Vidinha Stadium playoff!) was going to happen in Kalaheo because of the blustery rain that didn’t stop the line at Aunty Manapua (Nikki Ige said the pork hash is the bomb!).
And Adam Coyaso had some of Christine’s cold Vietnamese noodles (the rain washed away parts of the sign).
Online registration for the egg hunt at the Kukui Grove Spring Festival starts this morning from 8 a.m. at kukuigrovecenter.com, and there’s spring shopping at the Pau Hana Market starting at 3 p.m. today (wait for the cowbell, shoppers) at KGC.
And what is the “surprise” at Toddler Tuesday that starts at 11 a.m. at KGC?
