Kaua‘i Buddhist Council celebrates birth of Buddha April 3

Representatives of the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council accept a proclamation from Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, announcing Hanamatsuri Week, April 3 to 10, Wednesday at the Moikeha Building, Lihu‘e Civic Center. Kaua‘i Buddhist Council members include Rev. Mieko Majima of the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission, Rev. Kohtoku Hirao, KBC chair and of the Waimea Shingon Mission, Gerald Hirata of the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple, Gail Shibuya of the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission, Roberta Yanagawa of the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission, Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, Carol Valentine of the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission. Rev. Tomo Hojo of the West Kaua‘i Hongwanji, and Rev. Myoko Takano of the Koloa and Kapa‘a Jodo Missions.

LIHU‘E — Representatives of the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council reported to Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami on Wednesday that this year’s Hanamatsuri, or birth of the Buddha services, will be again hosted virtually through the Kaua‘i Buddhist Council’s YouTube channel, Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m.
