Lucas Summerhays leads Voyagers in KIF golf

WAILUA — Lucas Summerhays fired a day’s best 82 to lead the Island School boys golf team to victory Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf match at Wailua Golf Course.

Summerhays was joined by Kameron Lee, Christopher Jobe, Spencer Summerhays and Garrett Hadley to combine for a team 360 to take top honors, 18 strokes ahead of Kaua‘i High, which finished at 378.

The Red Raiders were led by Henry Anderson firing an 86, followed by Carson Oyama, Cody Nii, Kai Gokan and Sterling Mexia.

Ty Tsukayama, tying with Anderson at 86, led the Menehune boys, with Kylan Takakusagi, Kanoa Martin and Matt Taeza, to finish with a team 414.

Hailey Arakaki finished with a 95 to lead the Kaua‘i High girls team toward its 428 total. Other Red Raiders on the team include Leilani Redondo, Samantha Murphy and Amalia Abigania.

With no other girls team participating in the match, Island School’s Ema-Lani Ebesu was the top girls individualist, firing a 92. That was three strokes better than Arakaki.

The next KIF golf match is Saturday when the action moves to the Princeville Makai Golf Course. The first groups tee off starting at noon.
