Foodland to close pharmacies, transfer prescriptions to Longs Drugs

PRINCEVILLE — Foodland Super Market’s in-house pharmacies will permanently close by mid-April, the company announced Wednesday.

The Princeville Foodland pharmacy location will close April 14.

Foodland said it will confidentially transfer prescriptions from its pharmacies to Longs Drugs, to allow customers to seamlessly continue to fill their prescriptions without worry or disruption at the Longs Drugs location of their choice.

“The decision to exit the pharmacy business was not an easy one for us,” Foodland Chairman and CEO Jenai S. Wall said in a release. “While compressed margins and rising costs have led to increasing losses, we were concerned about the impact any closure would have on our many loyal pharmacy customers and employees.”

All Foodland pharmacy customer prescriptions will be automatically transferred to Longs, and no action will be required on the part of customers.

Customers may continue to call their usual Foodland pharmacy for 90 days after closing and the phone will ring at Longs. Customers may go to the Longs location of their choice to refill a prescription, as their information will be in the company’s centralized system.

Longs Drugs provides many benefits to customers, including rewards for filling prescriptions, text alerts and refill services, easy-to-read prescription labels, pharmacist-administered vaccinations, multi-dose packaging and more.

“We are grateful that our agreement with Longs Drugs will help ensure our customers’ access to care will be uninterrupted, while also enabling us to better focus our attention on delivering great grocery-shopping experiences and meeting the ever-changing food needs of our customers,” Wall said.

That would be a 30 minute drive for people in Princeville. Not very convenient! Hopefully there is another option.
