‘Ele‘ele pedestrian bridge reopens after two year closure

‘ELE‘ELE — The ‘Ele‘ele pedestrian overpass, over Kaumauali‘i Highway near its intersection with ‘Ele‘ele and Waialo roads and the ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center, has reopened.

A truck hit the previous overpass in June 2020, causing substantial structural damage, according to the state Department of Transportation.

As part of the project, the bridge deck and steel support beams were removed and replaced. Railing for the pedestrian bridge was installed in January.

Although open to the public, work on the overpass remains in the form of minor landscape maintenance around the stairs on the residential side of Kaumualiʻi Highway.
