HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School boys basketball’s Kala Rall, Keaka Kauhana and Mikey Questin led a three-pronged attack Saturday to secure fifth place after defeating LeJardin, 53-45, at the Heidi &Cooke Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II boys basketball championships.
HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School boys basketball’s Kala Rall, Keaka Kauhana and Mikey Questin led a three-pronged attack Saturday to secure fifth place after defeating LeJardin, 53-45, at the Heidi &Cooke Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II boys basketball championships.
In the victory contested at the Neal Blaisdell Arena, Rall and Kauhane each netted 13 points, and Questin finished with a dozen marks. Rall topped the defensive game with a dozen rebounds, getting help from Salomone Malafu, who snagged eight boards, and Kapa‘a’s other defensive post Epoki Tafea grabbing six rebounds.
Steven Duke Thomas topped the LeJardin Bulldogs’ effort with a game-high 16 points and 18 boards.
Kapa‘a, undefeated in Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation play, entered the state tournament seeded fourth, and getting upset by No. 5 seed Maui Preparatory Academy, whose two-pronged offense led by Drew Triplett and Dylan Falk netting 18 points each against the Warrirors’ effort that saw Rall finish with a game-high 20 points and Questin adding 14 points.
The loss sent the Warriors to battle the Waipahu Mauraders in the consolation bracket at Kaimuki High School. The Warriors took that contest, 66-59, to advance to face LeJardin.
