John Godfredo Gandeza
John Godfredo Gandeza, 75, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Jan. 17, 2022. He was born on Nov. 8, 1946, in Lihu‘e. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War. He was the owner of John Gandeza Photography and later retired from the County of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works.
He was preceded in death by parents Ricardo Gandeza and Tarcila Soriano, brothers Nicasio Asuncion Sr. and Rudy Gandeza and sister Sylvia Camat.
He is survived by wife Callie Gandeza, son Christopher (Taryn “Maka”) Gandeza, daughter Tamra (Kalani) Addington, granddaughter Wailana Gandeza, grandsons Kailer Chow-Agor and Kade Gandeza, hanai son Roven Poai, stepmother Esther Gandeza, brothers James Gandeza, Joseph (Shelley) Gandeza and Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza, sisters Plebicita Jaquias, Edna (Julio) Bolante, Medina (Andy) Pawley, Jessica (Norvin) Olivas and Florence Gandeza Tavares, sisters-in-law Jackie Gandeza, Lorna Asuncion and Cynthia Johnson, brother-in-law Melvin Camat, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, March 5, at Smith’s Tropical Paradise, with visitation from 9 to 10:15 a.m., and service to follow. Masks and social distancing are required. In order to enter, attendees over the age of 5 must provide proof of full vaccination and have cleared 14 days from their last dose or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 24 hours before the start of the event.

Luciano Kealoha ‘Sam’ Bustillos
Luciano Kealoha “Sam” Bustillos passed away on Feb. 17, 2022, at the age of 63, in Waimea. He was born on May 8, 1958 in Lihu‘e. He was a tour guide at the National Tropical Botanical Garden and known as “Kahu Sam.”
He was preceded in death by father Marcelo Bustillos Sr., mother Loka Kaohelauli‘i, stepfather Valentine Kaohelauli‘i and brother Marcelo Bustillos Jr.
He is survived by wife Lotuvale Bustillos, sons Samuel (Erin) Bustillos of O‘ahu, Abraham (Krystina) Bustillos of Kaua‘i, Jonathan Bustillos of Kaua‘i and Paris Kaimina‘auao Decambra of Kona, daughter Veronica Seei of Washington, grandchildren Degan, Gabe, Jai, Maxson, Jacob, Lahikiola and Kiele, brothers Joe Ho‘okipalani Bustillos of Maui and Lambert (Brenda) Kaohelauli‘i of Maui, sisters Joann (Robert) Figaroa of Kaua‘i, Connie “Tano” (Kaimana) Castaneda of Kaua‘i, Harriet Hualani (Dave) Duncan of Kaua‘i, Grace (Harry) Kala of Kaua‘i and Ruth Kapua (Kama) Beniamina of Kaua‘i, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His service is Saturday, March 5, at Garden Island Mortuary. A walk-thru visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a service. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Lorenzo ‘Larry’ Simbre
Lorenzo “Larry” Simbre passed away on Feb. 10, 2022, at the age of 83, in Waimea. He was born on Oct. 2, 1938 in Waialua, O‘ahu. He was a merchant seamanship cook.
He was preceded in death by parents Urbano Sudario Simbre and Maria Caronilla Simbre, brothers William Domingo, Pancing Lopez, Domingo Lopez, Eugene Ventura and James Simbre, and sisters Leonita Jeffiries and Beatrice Simbre.
He is survived by sons Lorenzo Simbre Jr. of O‘ahu, Bernard L. Simbre of O‘ahu, Luke (Kailani) Schmitt of Seattle, hanai son Peyton Siliado of Kaua‘i, daughters Vanessa F. Simbre of O‘ahu, Holly C. (Nelson) Fontanilla of O‘ahu, Blossom N. (William) Arthur of Kaua‘i and Lorena M. (Darrell) Cadelinia of O’ahu, 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brothers Stephen Simbre of Hawai‘i, Richard (Linda) Simbre of O‘ahu, Urbano (Robin) Simbre Jr. of O‘ahu, Edward Ventura of California and Robert (Carol) Ventura of O‘ahu, sisters Jane Ringor of O‘ahu, Elizabeth Jardin of Texas and Shirley R. (Wayne) Simbre-Medeiros of Kaua‘i, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service will be held.

Elizabeth (Betty) Camara
Elizabeth (Betty) Camara, 89, originally from McHenry, Illinois, passed away on Jan. 11, 2022. She was born on Oct. 19, 1932 in Sterling, Colorado, and resided in Kalaheo. She was a homemaker and saleswoman.
She was preceded in death by son Richard M. Camara Jr., and parents Frank and Elizabeth Weingart.
She is survived by husband Richard M. Camara and daughters Deborah Camara, Sandra Camara, Cindy O’Conner and Mary (Christopher) Hare, son James (Anita) Camara, 13 granchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation and service was held on Jan. 21, 2022, at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, Illinois.
Robert Defuntorum Juliano
Robert Defuntorum Juliano, 47, of Puhi, passed away at home on Jan. 16, 2022. He was born in Bacag Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines, on Aug. 12, 1974.
He was preceded in death by parents Rodolfo and Hilaria Juliano, maternal grandparents Eduardo and Esmerenciana Defuntorum, and paternal grandparents Dionicio and Susana Derige Juliano.
He is survived by sons Nicholas Jesper G. Palmquist and Ashton J. Gambeng-Juliano, both of Oregon, siblings John D. Juliano, Julie Ann D. Juliano (Fredie) Ramos, Juanito D. (Maribel) Juliano, Mary Ann D. (Rolando) Ballesteros, Janette D. Juliano and Ferdinand D. (Madelyn) Juliano, aunts Leonida Defuntorum Leones and Leyte Juliano and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, March 5, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, with viewing beginning from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m., with cremation to follow. Social distancing and masks are required.
