LIHU‘E — The Community Heroes Award, a volunteer-recognition program started in the ‘Aiea and Pearl City communities last year by state Sen. Bennette E. Misalucha and the nonprofit Kanu Hawai‘i, has expanded to two additional House districts.
The 2022 Community Heroes Awards will honor and recognize residents who have exemplified outstanding leadership and volunteer service to their community. This year, state Rep. Nadine Nakamura, who represents the Eastside and North Shore of Kaua‘i, and state Rep. Lisa Kitagawa, who represents Kane‘ohe, are sponsoring one winner from each of their districts.
Criteria for eligibility include having participated in an organization or activity for at least six months prior to Jan. 1.
The selection committee, under the guidance of Kanu Hawai‘i, will consider factors such as the effectiveness, scope and amount of time dedicated to volunteer efforts.
Applications are available through each legislators’ offices, and online at kanuhawaii.org.
