Aurea Urubio Sagucio

Aurea Urubio Sagucio of Kaumakani passed away on Jan. 16, 2022 at the age of 75, in Waimea.

She was born on March 11, 1946, in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. She was a housekeeper at the Kaua’i Surf and Waiohai hotels, supervisor at the Westin Kaua‘i Hotel, a certified nurses aide at Kaua‘i Care Center and Hale ‘Oma‘o care center (now Hale Kupuna Heritage Home), an adult supervisor at ‘Ele‘ele School, and was also employed at ‘Ele‘ele McDonald’s and seasonally at Macy’s.

She was preceded in death by parents Theodore and Leonor Urubio.

She is survived by husband Nemesio Calvan Sagucio Sr., sons Alex (Caprice) Sagucio, Nemesio C. “Lala” Sagucio Jr., Jeffrey (Catherine) Sagucio, Sherwin Sagucio Sr. and Sherwin Sagucio Jr., daughters Nancy (Jun) Sanchez and Jennifer Sagucio, 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister Victoria (Chris) Visoria, and numerous nieces and cousins.

A service is Saturday, Feb. 19, at Garden Island Mortuary, with a walk-thru visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Mass to follow. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Debbie Iwalani Kanahele

Debbie Iwalani Kanahele passed away on Jan. 14, 2022, at the age of 63, in ‘Oma‘o. She was born on March 8, 1958, in Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by parents Salala and James Kahale, sisters Joyce Simao, Rhoda Pahulehua, Caroline Kahale and Barbra Kahale, and brother Allen Kahale.

She is survived by husband Ambrose Kanahele of Kekaha, sons Ambrose (Berna Souza) Kanahele Jr. of Hanapepe and Ryan (Megan) Kanahele of Oregon, daughters Jaylynn Kanahele of Kekaha, seven grandchildren, brothers Ricky (Amy) Kahale of Kekaha and James (Lauren) Kahale of Kekaha, sister Laurie-Ann (Mitchel) Kali of Hanapepe, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Saturday, Feb. 5, at Garden Island Mortuary,with visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. followed by a celebration of life. The family requests casual attire.

Judge George Masashi Masuoka

Judge George Masashi Masuoka, 81, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 15, 2022. He was born in Kapa‘a and was a retired judge for the state Judiciary, Fifth Circuit Court Kaua‘i.

He is survived by wife Sharon Hope Masuoka, daughters Michelle Masuoka and Ashley (Brandon) Ito, grandchildren Emma, Ethan and Camryn Ito, and brother Gary (Vicky) Masuoka.

Private services will be held.

Alvin ‘Ned’ Murphy Jr., M.D.

Alvin “Ned” Murphy Jr., M.D., passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2022 at Wilcox Medical Center. He had a private practice and worked for both the state Department of Health and for the University of Hawai‘i as a psychiatrist. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by parents Alvin and Hazel Murphy and sister Jane Dunbar.

He is survived by wife Susan Goodbody Murphy, sons Sean Murphy and Christopher Murphy, and two grandchildren.

Services are pending at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu.

Ronald Masashi Sakoda

Ronald Masashi Sakoda passed away on Jan. 26, 2022, at the age of 74, in Waimea. He was born on Oct. 31, 1947 in Hilo, Hawai‘i Island. He was a veteran with the Air National Guard, founder of Ron’s Electric, field representative for the late U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye and active with the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board.

He was preceded in death by father Masao Sakoda, mother Hatsue Kamei and brother Ernest Sakoda.

He is survived by wife Elena Hamm, sisters Beatrice Iwata of O‘ahu, Gladys Harada of Hilo and Betsy (Allen) Uyematsu of Kaua‘i.

A private service will be held at a later date. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Daniel Kazu Taniguchi

Daniel Kazu Taniguchi passed away on Jan. 27, 2022, at the age of 63. He was born on Jan. 8, 1959 in Waimea.

He was preceded in death by brother Nicholas (Cola) Taniguchi.

He is survived by parents Nicholas and Nancy Taniguchi, sisters Bernadette (Gerard) Taniguchi of Kaua‘i, Antolynn (Alex) Taniguchi of Kaua‘i and April Joy Taniguchi of Kaua‘i, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is Monday, Feb. 14, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i, with a walk-thru visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
