LIHU‘E — The decision was unanimous, said Taylor Shigemoto of the Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union Friday.
“In November, as part of Pay It Forward, the main office gave each associate $50 to turn over to a nonprofit of their choice,” Shigemoto said. “We all agreed to turn over the awards to the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i.”
Wes Perreira, the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i director, was appreciative of the collective contribution from the associates at the credit union located across the entrance to Starbucks Coffee at Kukui Grove Center.
“We are extremely grateful for any donation, no matter the amount,” Perreira said. “We feel very lucky that Hawai‘iUSA FCU thought about us. Please know that it will be used to feed those in need — only on Kaua‘i.”
Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Grants and Communications Coordinator Tisha Remigio said the Hawai‘iUSA FCU ‘ohana contribution helps provide more than 600 meals to those in need on the island.
“Any amount given goes directly to our mission,” Remigio said. “We share this mission, compassionately, with supporters like Taylor and his team. Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i is very fortunate to have their ongoing support. Without the support from partners like Hawai‘iUSA FCU, we would be riding our bicycles without handles.”
