KAPA‘A — Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness, and the Kapa‘a Interfaith Association invites those needing a Thanksgiving lunch can take advantage of the Kapa‘a Interfaith Association Free Community Thanksgiving Lunch on Nov. 25.
The Lions Club Foundation helped launch this year’s campaign with a $1,000 donation to help with the lunch that will be held in a drive-thru and walk-up pick-up, similar to last year’s event because of the ongoing COVID-19.
There will also be home delivery available from Lihu‘e to Anahola for those who are not physically able to drive to the Kapa‘a pick-up point. These would be home-bound residents or kupuna who do not have a way of getting the meals. Appointments need to be made in advance by calling Sarah Rogers, the lunch chair, at 808-822-3473. Appointments can also be done by emailing mail@kapaahongwanji.org.
Rev. Mieko Majima of the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission said its temple will serve as the distribution point for the home deliveries as it did last year. The meals are scheduled for delivery between 11 a.m. and noon on Thanksgiving Day.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., the community is invited to the Interfaith Community Worship at the All Saints Episcopal Church prior to the start of the to-go boxed lunches.
The lunches will be available on a drive-through manner by using the entrance and turn-around to the Arzadon Industrial Park between the Gather Federal Credit Union, and the All Saints Gym.
Bicyclists and walkers are able to get their lunches directly from the All Saints Gym entrance.
Meals are being prepared by Chef Mark Oyama and his ‘ohana from Contemporary Flavors Catering who has been doing the Community Lunch for a good number of years.
Churches participating in the Kapa‘a Interfaith Association include the All Saints Episcopal Church, the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Happy Science, the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Temple, the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission, the Lihu‘e Honganji Temple, the Kapa‘a Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Kapa‘a United Church of Christ, and the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church.
