Mahalo to Grace Meek for paying it forward and getting lunch (apple or orange?) for her Hi‘ehi‘e crew (Darnell Sugioka-Costales is the bomb for even volunteering with Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i on days when the shower is not on the road, just like Nicole Cowan who was helping with tobacco-cessation programs).
These are the same angels that show up Fridays when Rowena Contrades-Pangan and the Ho‘omana Thrift Store ‘ohana host their weekly kokua days in Wailua. Dory Farias of Hale Ho‘omalu said they have fresh clothes for after showering!
Kudos to the Kapa‘a Lions Club on delivering those “blessings bags” the club packed during its regular meeting on Tuesday, with Janice Bond (her late husband, Jerry Bond, went north and started the North Shore Lions Club when he was the pro at the Princeville Golf Course). Janice helped drop off the 50-plus bags to the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital for its residents.
And more kudos to Kaua‘i Police Department Chief Todd Raybuck and his troops in blue for joining with several churches for the Faith &Blue food distributions Friday (Tisha Ruiz and Melissa Ragasa of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch turned out to help at the Lihu‘e and Kalaheo sites, too!).
Tisha said she’ll be doing pre-packed snacks on Saturday at the Pumpkins! Pumpkins! Pumpkins! event next weekend at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center.
KPD Capt. Rod Green said we need to fire up this year’s Toys For Tots early in light of COVID-19 and the just-announced (Friday-night news) anticipated holiday shortages.
