LIHU‘E — Saturday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 on Kaua‘i, all residents — four children and six adults.
LIHU‘E — Saturday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 on Kaua‘i, all residents — four children and six adults.
One of the cases is related to interisland travel. The remaining nine cases are considered community-acquired. Five of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of a previously announced case or are tied to an active cluster. The remaining four community-acquired cases have no known source of infection, including one whom investigators have been unable to reach after repeated attempts or who has refused to provide information.
Saturday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 114, with four hospitalized, and 2,480 cumulative cases.
The state Department of Education reported 143 COVID-19 cases within schools between Friday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 7, including eight on Kaua‘i.
Kapa‘a High reported three cases. Wilcox Elementary reported two. Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle, Kapa‘a Elementary and Kapa‘a Middle reported one case each.
One of the cases at Wilcox Elementary was not on campus within a week of their case being reported.
This period marks the lowest weekly reported DOE COVID-19 cases since the first full week of school in early August.
