OK, so Super Scratchcard distributor Emma got excused on Wednesday so she could audition (no, not for the Hawai‘i Children’s Theater production of “Disney’s Moana Jr.”) for an upcoming film.
But Stacie Chiba-Miguel, Emma’s mom, said they’re making up for Wednesday by being present Saturday at the Kaua‘i Visitor Industry Charity Walk golf tournament that tees off Saturday morning at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course (there might still be spots available).
Stacie and her crew will have scratch tickets for donation, and to sweeten the pot they got a Yeti cooler (a Yeti Rambler is part of the scratch ticket premium) that people who donate will have an opportunity to win.
Chef Glenn Hayakawa of Haole Girl Island Sweets had some special plum crostata, created by chef Judy Capertina in tribute to the Koke‘e plums, and Mini Me is learning to be nice or end up on a short leash.
Christie Tanner (we’re still missing Isobel Storch) of Waimea Valley Fruit (see? Don’t need to drive all the way west for those Indonesian white guava) is thrilled with being hired to care for the grounds at Hale Puna (ask her about how that house got its name), where they do farmers’ markets on Thursdays starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Hawai‘i Junior Golf Association, with strong support from the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, is also hosting a junior golf tournament this weekend at Puakea Golf Course, playing 36 holes over Saturday and Sunday. Nope, no crowds encouraged because of the COVID-19. Yes, face masks are required wear, even at the farmers’ markets.
OK, following the charity walk golf, the virtual walk launches Aug. 30 and runs through Sept. 12 (is that when the scratch card for donations end, too?). There is still time to get a group of people together and form a team or find a team to get behind and support. Visit charitywalkhawaii.org/kauai.html.
