LIHU‘E — Wednesday, the state’s Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 43 new cases of COVID-19.
These cases are among six visitors and 37 residents.
Of the 43 cases, five are children and 38 are adults.
Fourteen of the cases are related to travel – four interisland and 10 mainland. The remaining 29 cases are considered community-acquired. Twenty-four of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases or are tied to one of the active clusters. The remaining five community-acquired cases have no known source of infection.
Seventeen of Wednesday’s cases are from the active cluster at the Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center. These cases were announced with the Department of Public Safety’s Tuesday update.
All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing, and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
Wednesday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 237, with two hospitalized, and 989 cumulative cases.
Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 935 confirmed locally, eight probable, and 46 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
Daily case counts continue to rise rapidly, despite the DOH’s efforts to perform comprehensive case investigation and contact tracing. Vaccination is free and widely available on the island, including on weekends and evenings and pop-up vaccination opportunities at community sites. Many vaccination sites accept walk-ins. Residents aged 18 and older are eligible for any vaccine available at pharmacy, hospital, and clinic locations. The Pfizer vaccine has been authorized for use in those 12 years of age and older, and are currently available at Wilcox Medical Center, Lihu‘e Longs, and Lihu‘e Safeway. For details on the vaccination sites, visit www.kauai.gov/vaccine.
“These cases are among six visitors”. Those are only the visitors that were sick enough to get tested because they were concerned about themselves, how many more mildly sick or sick with no symptoms visitors are running around infecting people as carriers? How many fake vaccination cards are being used on our island? Way to go Ige, Green and Kawakami!
Maybe they can shut down the shopping center again. For 3 weeks. Another lockdowns. This would wipe out the economy again. Business have nearly done away with the capacity rule indoors. Though theirs face mask rule yet.
There’s or there is…
Lt Gov is too busy blaming residents to even CONSIDER the amount of Covid brought in by tourists. Remember, he is also the one that assured us tourists would not come with fake vaccine cards.
Perhaps instead of blaming tourists a good reality check first. Biden and Harris both told us during the election that if Trump brought the vaccine in record speed it would be ineffective. Subsequently the population on Kauai is now reluctant to believe anything from the Fed. How can you blame anyone for not being vaccinated when its not even approved by the FDA.
The reality of living in a world that sensors opinions is called communism, it appears that 50% of America is for false censorship of new. Why has not the Mayor told its constituents that their are therapeutics now approved to trat Covid.
Shutting down Kauai is not ever going to be a solution, therapeutics and learning to live with Covid will become the new reality. For those concerned you know the risk and no what you can do to not ever get Covid.
It appears that our mayor is not interested in informing anyone about early treatment with available therapeutics such as Ivermectin, Hydroxychloriquin, or other emerging treatments, nor is he interested in telling people about the dangers inherent in the “vaccines” that are constantly being shoved in our arms. How many people, when they receive their shot(s), were told of all the possible serious side effects, including death, that these experimental mRNA shots have exhibited thus far? I pose this question to all who have received the shot(s) and would appreciate feedback, as it is your right by law to receive this information prior to being given the shot(s).
Totally agree with Doug! It’s time for a no travel order!!
I don’t know if businesses can handle another no travel order, but at least reinstate testing, and this time do it on both ends of the trip as the Mayor originally wanted. We had a flood of travel when the testing program was in effect, it had no impact on travelers.
Things were going better when everyone was tested before getting on a plane. It’s become clear that just being vaccinated doesn’t mean you don’t have it. I was just reading 30% of all cases in LA are vaccinated. Even though they won’t tell, my guess is most cases are locals coming back from Vegas, vaccinated or not.
