Kauli‘a Shiroma and Kaidyn Yago, both wearing their Kanaka Powawae (the Hawaiian Football Federation) soccer standout shirts following a US Club Soccer tournament on Maui in April, have been selected to be a part of an ID clinic on Maui. The ID Clinic that will be held July 9 through 11 determines the final selection of 17 players on the roster for the Hawaiian National team that will travel to major tournaments. The boys are from the Keahi Soccer Club.

Aulac Phoksee and Prancee Antov of Weeraphon Farm set out pumpkin blossoms and Thai chilis Monday at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Mayette Loseto gets a lot of mileage out of her samples of Forbidden Valley pineapples as shoppers at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e snatched them up as fast as she can put them out.

She even provided a waste package for the rinds.

Kaleb and Ryder Soriano, on the other hand, couldn’t pass up the fresh coconut being put out by Aloha Lani Farm (business was on the slow side as Sakda “Pat” Thaksin had time to do other vending between carving coconuts).

Janice Bond (she was waiting for Melissa McFerrin-Warrack to show up) was late because she spent the day distributing material for the two-day Veterans Day golf tournament that will play out on Nov. 6 and 7 at the Hokuala Golf Club and Princeville Makai Golf Club. There will be special prizes for golfers who do both days! She said people need to sign up early because, last year, it was pretty much sold out close to the tournament date.

And what happened to that shopper looking for fried chicken? Harry Shigekane of Daddy O’s showed up to get veggies for the restaurant right after the shopper went to check out the Times Supermarket deli, and Laurie Ho and Bev Pang nearly wiped out a vendor’s stock of fresh peanuts. Bev got a lot of other produce, too, including the Thai watermelon (Brent Mizutani found one that’s perfect for after dinner!).

And, Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said the Back to School Bash has been pushed back to Saturday, July 24.

The Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau does its scholarship presentation Monday, July 26.

The Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i Back to School sale starts this weekend.
