LIHU‘E — On Wednesday, May 12 at 6 p.m., an online panel will discuss how Kaua‘i residents can influence where their trash goes and what happens to it.
At the Kaua‘i Climate Action Forum on Zoom, members of the Zero Waste Kaua‘i executive committee will present zero-waste approaches to sustainability to consider for inclusion in the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan and how Kaua‘i residents can participate in developing the 10-year, solid-waste plan.
There will also be a question-and-answer session and ongoing discussions.
One attendee will win a community-sourced agriculture box of organic food from the Kaua‘i Food Hub, and another will win a compost tumbler to begin their own trips to sustainability.
Kaua‘i is in the process of updating its plan for managing solid waste for the next 10 years. The county will present the draft ISWMP to the public in mid-May.
The plan will be available for public comment for 60 days, with a public hearing at the halfway point, before it is finalized and presented to the County Council and mayor for approval.
The Kaua‘i Climate Action forum, presented by the Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition, Surfrider Foundation Kaua‘i Chapter and Zero Waste Kaua‘i, is held the second Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.
“Talking Trash: Seeking Solutions to Kaua‘i’s Solid Waste Crisis” is the May 12 presentation. Register at bit.ly/talkingtrashkauai.
