LIHU‘E — Retired general Myron N. Dobashi of Lihu‘e was named a Distinguished Alumni by the Central Washington University, Monday, in Ellensburg, Washington.
LIHU‘E — Retired general Myron N. Dobashi of Lihu‘e was named a Distinguished Alumni by the Central Washington University, Monday, in Ellensburg, Washington.
Dobashi, a retired Brigadier General, and assistant adjutant general, Air Force, Department of Defense, the State of Hawai‘i, and former commander of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard, was announced as the Distinguished Alumni Award for the College of Arts and Humanities.
“It is with great pride and admiration that I congratulate the 2021 Distinguished Alumni recipients on behalf of the CWU Alumni Association, said CWU Alumni Association Board President Karina Busch in the announcement. “The recipients have demonstrated excellence within their professions and made lasting impacts within their communities. These individuals have demonstrated the true meaning of civic engagement by serving as leaders and mentors. The Wildcat community is proud and thankful for all the contributions made by these incredibly talented and generous individuals.”
A virtual award ceremony is scheduled for April 16 for the recipients of the 13 awards announced by the CWU Alumni Association who embrace Central Washington University’s spirit and mission.
Dobashi, graduating as the Distinguished Cadet in the CWU Class of 1965, was the oldest grandson to carry the Dobashi family name of his generation, said Jean Dobashi, Myron’s wife. Dobashi is the first male child of Yeso and Hanako Dobashi.
“The first and only trip that his mom Hanako ever took to the mainland was for Myron’s college graduation,” Jean said. “I got to learn a lot of his ‘small-kid time’ living on Kaua‘i.”
