Find out if dental hygienist is vaccinated

Recognizing the importance of protecting patients and risks involved, health-care workers were identified as some of the very first individuals who were to be vaccinated.

A recent visit to the dentist for a routine teeth cleaning revealed that, by choice, the hygienist had not received a COVID vaccination, yet continued to treat patients.

The Hawai‘i Dental Association suggests (in a private communication) that, prior to visiting the dentist, each patient engage in a conversation with their health-care provider regarding whether or not your hygienist has received COVID vaccination. Wouldn’t you like to know if the person working within inches of your mouth is protected to the fullest extent and thus is protecting you to the fullest extent?

Always two sides to the story

Two years ago the island of Kaua‘i welcomed its new chief of police, Todd Raybuck.

I invited him to the sold-out Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

It was a great opportunity for him to meet the community and the community to meet him. He was an instant hit! As we sat for lunch, I of course asked a lot of questions.

Raybuck joined the military at the age of 18 in 1987 and was stationed at Wheeler Army and Air Force base. That base is next to my hometown of Wahiawa. Instant dond. He learned the customs, culture, dos and don’ts from the local braddah’s.

Raybuck retired after 27 years as a police captain in Vegas. Imagine being selected as the new chief of police on Kaua‘i. Imagine that process. The best was chosen. To the individual(s) who was in those meetings, I humbly support you, too. I too am a proud Asian.

Somehow, I think he was not being on the level of the chief, but was trying to be an equal and being humorous. There’s always two sides to the story. Let’s please hear from the chief!

The department has had a history of pilikia with chiefs, deputy chiefs and the rank and file. Unity, not lawsuits. I do not believe we want to find a new chief for a long, long process. BTW, who would want the job?

My last episode of “Wala‘au” after 25 years featured Raybuck. I wanted our community to support the men and women of the department, our chief, and the continued safety and security of all of Kaua‘i!

Dickie Chang, Puhi

Give Raybuck another chance

We met Chief Raybuck shortly after his arrival, when he was making visits around the island.

We were impressed then with the goals he shared for the department, and over the past two years have been very pleased with the overall improvements of the force.

Did he make an error in judgment regarding his recent inappropriate comments? Yes, he did, but his contributions to our island hopefully will outweigh his actions. He’s admitted his mistakes. So now let’s forgive and move on with the many challenges that we are all facing with both COVID-19 and our problems on the North Shore. Let’s bring a little aloha into this situation.

Ben Gillikin, Princeville

Poor souls who don’t know everyone’s vaccination schedule. But wait! We learned from recent studies that those with the vaccine are still infected and are able to spread the virus to others! Lordy me! Is it your right to know another citizen’s vaccination and health challenge details? Grow a pair Michael and live your life. Covid has been way overblown and you drank the cool aide! By the way, check the death rates of all Americans in the United States and the World by year going back decades. There was no spike in deaths in 2020. Now follow the money and see who’s been getting rich off of the Covid hoax. Yep the very so called “Scientists”, Health Care providers, and “Politicians” who shut the entire economy down for a virus who’s death percentage of those who contact it is .3%, and the vast majority of people who get it have a runny nose for a few days. What a joke.

You’re absolutely right, im sure you with your maybe high school diploma know way way more than people who have spent years actually studying disease.
Look at how great trump did! He said the virus would magically disappear and we are almost there! Only half a mill dead. Basically just a cold right?

I was a career dental hygienist, Michael Diamant. This experimental “vaccine” is part of a plan to wipe out a huge part of the population. I will not actively participate in any business requiring an employee to participate in the hoax. Try opening your mind to not your idea but actually to the truth.

I suggest people google this Dr. Vernon Coleman in the video.

The guy is a loon. Not exactly Mayo Clinic. More like the head of medicine for Q-anon

If we started pointing out the nut jobs who make videos and who conduct our Nations Business you would have to line up nearly 100% of the Democrats and label them “loon’s” and the “heads of Socialism for Idiots”. Your point? There is no Pandemic worth shutting down the world and giving greedy, selfish, and whore mongering Politicians more power over every aspect of your life! The reported death rate that the WHO uses is deaths as a percentage of “reported” cases! Since a majority of people who contact the virus don’t even know they had it, or do not show any significant symptoms all, that percentage is probably over 50% too high! That being said, the death rate for Covid is obviously only half or less of what’s reported as deaths as a percentage of “reported” cases. If only half of the Covid cases are not reported (which is conservative) that means the actual death rate from Covid is a minuscule 1.5%. THAT IS NO PANDEMIC! It’s about the same as all the other flu’s that have reared their ugly head over the decades. SARS had a higher death percentage than Coved has today! You’ve been screwed by a Politician, Scientist, Health Care conglomerate, news media perpetuated hoax for wealth and power! We’re actually more foolish than the Germans under Hitler who followed him blindly into the depths of the ultimate swamp. Fools.

Democrats? I think both sides are equally guilty. But you go on thinking what you think.
Who was in charge when the pandemic started? If we are stupider than the people who followed Hitler you have to include yourself for not embracing reality. Keep trying though.
What is your source for the SARS claim. You sound as ludicrous as Coleman.

Nothings free, your handle is correct. Ignorance will cost you.
          Finally, I vote independent.

Nothing, seems math isn not a strong suit either.

How many people contracted SARS worldwide during the 2003 outbreak? How many people died of SARS worldwide?
During November 2002 through July 2003, a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick with severe acute respiratory syndrome that was accompanied by either pneumonia or respiratory distress syndrome (probable cases), according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Of these, 774 died. By late July 2003, no new cases were being reported, and WHO declared the global outbreak to be over. For more information on the global SARS outbreak of 2003, visit WHO’s SARS websiteexternal icon.

On our police chief and his “mistake” I agree with Dickie Chang and Ben Gillikin. I have to tell you my mistake when conversing with a customer , this has haunted me for the past 15 years but I have never repeated it again , me: ” how sweet when is your baby due”? customer: “I am not pregnant I am fat”. It taught me to think and choose my conversation with customers very carefully, lesson learned.

How can you compare mistaking a person to be pregnant with a police chief making racist remarks? Cherokee County Sheriff’s Capt. Jay Baker wasn’t removed after selling Anti-Asian t-shirts last year and surprise, he’s back at it again saying some racist who just killed 6 Asian women was not racist and that he was just having a really bad day. This Anti-Asian hate and racism needs to be stopped.

Ulla, i totally ‘get’ your comment! Here is my back story. im at DMV waited two hours to obtain and pay again for star license that never came in the mail months earlier. I finally approach the window and before taking a seat, Ive taken to saying “thank you for coming to work today, auntie”. yes, the wahine was twenty years younger, but her return comment was “I’M NOT YOUR AUNTIE! Next stop, was the mayors office, where even Derek was shocked. However, before i left DMV, i acted out to the point where i cleared the room that was behind the counter, the DMV director assisted me to retrieve the replacement license AND those waiting and observing the activity actually clapped their hands that i had stood my ground, propped my feet on the counter, refused to leave and asked them to call KPD, cuz that kind of disrespect was totally unwarranted!

Georgie! Are you familiar with Google? There are studies after studies showing SARS was much more deadly than Covid! Read them all! Here’s “healthline. com” as an example.

It’s estimated that 20 percent Trusted Source of people with COVID-19 will need to be hospitalized for treatment. A smaller percentage of this group will need mechanical ventilation. SARS cases were more severe, in general. It’s estimated that 20 to 30 percent of people with SARS required mechanical ventilation. Estimates of the mortality rate of COVID-19 vary greatly depending on factors like location and the characteristics of a population. Generally speaking, mortality rates for COVID-19 have been estimated to range between 0.25 and 3 percent.

SARS is much more deadly than COVID-19. The estimated mortality rate is about 10 percent”

The first public words to come out of Trump’s mouth were “we may have to stop travel and follow the CDC guidelines, but will need to access the ramifications on the lives of our people and economy”. Of course, the destroying of our economy under Trump was the main objective of Democrats like you George. And they succeeded! They by hook and crook won the dubious election! The only good thing as the current jokers destroy our economy and install a bigger Government overlord is that those who will be hurt most are the very same individuals like you George who voted Democrat. The wealthy of the Country in the top income levels will find a way to weather the storm, and even get richer! In fact they will make much more money as they move their money back off shore as the middle class declines! Break out the Socialism cool aide for Georgie!

Nothings free. A public education is free. You appear to have reading comprehension issues. Maybe take advantage at night or start with your cereal box in the morning.

But the mental lockstep you are in doesnt allow you to hear anything that might promote introspection of your beliefs.

Hey nothing . Went to your source. Your info is correct but flawed. You chose only to use what supported your argument Reread below specificslly thd last couple of lines And about the election. Your ability to analyze my thinking is further proof of your need to be educated. I voted for the best person. Not based on party.

2002–2004 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
SARS is another type of coronavirus that came out of China and spread quickly through respiratory droplets. Though the SARS death rate was higher than COVID-19, COVID-19 has already claimed more lives.

According to Johnson, contact tracingTrusted Source — or monitoring people in close contact with those who contracted it — was really effective with SARS, largely because symptoms were severe and therefore easier to identify and contain.

In addition, Schleiss said the SARS virus didn’t have the “fitness to persist in the human population,” which eventually led to its demise.

Schleiss added this doesn’t seem to be the case with COVID-19, which seems to be able to spread and thrive in the human body.

Overall, though SARS’ death rate was higher, COVID-19 has led to “more fatalities, more economic repercussions, more social repercussions than we [had] with SARS,” Johnson said.
